Revellers Plunge to the Welcoming Earth

Image hosting by Photobucket

In the old days, people used to sleep out on the fire escape when it was too hot. Other times, they’d use them to hang clothes. Or to throw parties on. But very rarely was the fire escape ever used to escape a fire. Its invention is a seemingly one-time use, for many buildings were only up to code because of said fire escape. These structures would never survive a blaze, so in essence, the fire escape was providing a last service, as it would soon be crushed into the paste of soot, brick, mortar, and charred flesh, thrown away or better, perhaps used to line someone’s garden. Credit human ingenuity for finding another use for the aforementioned fire escape. One that put a lie to its true use as a vessel to escape the inferno of death. One that made it a valuable addition, for slumber, drying clothes, or hosting a soiree, anything, please anything, to keep it from being the constant reminder that horror abounds in each strike of a match.
