There used to be a store called Kroger Sav-On.

It was the first store I can remember that was open 24 hours.

My parents would buy all their groceries there, in the middle of the night. Being the safe 1970s, they would leave me at the magazines to read while they shopped.

I was always afraid of Eerie and Creepy horror magazines. They gave me nightmares. Reading them these days, they are just so silly. But for a 6 year old boy with a big imagination, they kept me awake at night, wondering when a monster would come in and kill me.

For some reason, I miss that.
